Meditations On Bodhisattva Path Course To Start At Bodhi Sampanna On August 16, 2009
Bodhi Sampanna, a Buddhist
Meditation & Study Centre, invites you to "Meditations on the
Bodhisattva Path" course starting August 16, Sunday. The course will
introduce the participants to various Buddhist meditation techniques practiced
on the Bodhisattva Path to Enlightenment. This will be done through a series of
teaching and meditation sessions. The first course - 'Meditations on Developing
the Four Immeasurable Mental Attitudes" - will start on August 16 and will
consist of 6 sessions:
Introduction to Shamatha (Tranquil Abiding) and
Vipashyana (Insight) meditations
Meditations on the Four Immeasurable Mental Attitudes
of Universal Love (Maitri), Compassion (Karuna), Altruistic Joy (Mudita)
and Equanimity (Upeksha)
Meditations on Generating the Mind of Awakening
Meditations on Eliminating Root Afflictions of the Mind
- attachment through understanding of Impermanence (Anityata)
Meditations on Eliminating Root Afflictions of the Mind
- ignorance through understanding Dependent Origination
(Pratitya-samutpada)
Meditation on Eliminating Root Afflictions of the Mind
- ignorance through understanding Emptiness (Shunyata)
The course
will be conducted by Venerable Khangser Rinpoche, a prominent Buddhist scholar
and practitioner. A holder of several meditation lineages, Rinpoche teaches at SeraJeyBuddhistMonasticUniversity in Karnataka.
Schedule of the 1st session - "Introduction to Shamatha (Tranquil Abiding)
and Vipashyana (Insight) meditations:
August 16, Sunday, 2009
10:00 AM - 11:15 AM: teaching on how to develop Tranquil Abiding meditation,
followed by guided meditation session
11:15 AM - 11:30 AM: Q & A session
11:30 AM - 11:50 AM: tea break
11:50 AM - 12:35 PM: teaching on how to develop Vipashyana meditation, followed
by guided meditation session
12:35 PM - 1:00 PM: Q & A session
